   Considered the beginning of electronic music, the theremin is a musical instrument that can be played with magnetic waves. It was invented a long time ago. This instrument, which was used to create background sounds in horror movies, was the first musical instrument that could be played without touching.      HOW WAS IT INVENTED?

   Theremin was discovered by Russian inventor Leon Theremin, who invented this musical instrument in 1919 but patented it in 1928.

    HOW THE SOUND IS FORMED?

   The sound waves of the Theremin, the first musical instrument to be played without touch, are formed between two metal antennas. These antennas then detect the hand movements of the person playing the instrument. The sounds are formed according to these hand movements.

   The electrical signals generated by the use of hands are then transmitted to the speaker. Vibration waves are sent with one hand, the volume is adjusted with the other hand.

     WHERE IS IT USED?

    The instrument is often used to create soundtracks for horror and science fiction movies and is considered the beginning of electronic music.

It is often used in the soundtracks of horror movies because it makes eerie sounds. It is also frequently preferred in rock music, except for movie soundtracks.

   It was first entered in films by composer Dmitri Shostakovich in 1931.The melodies of this instrument used in the Russian composer Shostakovich's movie Odna, which was planned as a silent film, added an eerie atmosphere to the film.

    This instrument was also used frequently in the films of famous thriller director Alfred Hitchcock.

 

  The theremin was also used in popular music. The band "Led Zeppelin" used this instrument in their live performance. Let's listen.

    The world-famous band The Rolling Stones💗 also featured the tunes of Theremin in their album "Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request".

   Clara Rockmore is considered to be the best player to play the theremin instrument. Rockmore complained that it was used to create spooky sounds in horror movies and stated that theremin should be taken seriously, after Clara died,the album "Clara Rockmore's Lost Theremin" was released in 2006.
